Flexible Book Content
BOOX devices use the Android system, so users can install all kinds of applications via the built-in app store and Google Play Store. So users can install not only book-reading apps, such as Kindle, Kobo, Scribd and Libby, but also audio reading apps such as Amazon Audible and Google Play Books.
A Reading Experience Built for All
Reading should not be fixed and unchangeable; it can be flexible and custom on BOOX. With BOOX tablets, users can adjust font size, typography, line spacing, paddings and page margins. Also, they can separately modify the contrast of images and texts to make both more recognizable.
Moreover, users can separate an A4-size PDF into several sections and read them one by one in custom orders. In this way, the small sections will zoom in to fit the screen without adjusting the font size and file layout.
Since the V3.1 firmware, OCR feature has been introduced to the default NeoReader. Users can use OCR up to 15 times a day for free to convert images with handwriting to texts. So they can copy and refer to the texts in the image easily. The OCR texts can even be read out with the built-in TTS function.
Text-to-Speech and Speech-to-Text
Speaking of Text-to-Speech (TTS) function in NeoReader, it’s beneficial for users who tend to listen to rather than read books.
With TTS, users can choose their favorite sound and set a timer. Volume and speed adjustment are also available, which makes it even more flexible to use this feature. As we’ve mentioned above, TTS is also available for OCR texts.
If the files contain images with texts, then TTS can be a handy feature for users if they would like to listen to the content.
Other than TTS, BOOX also supports Speech-to-Text.
Speech-to-Text is a built-in feature of the Onyx keyboard. When the mic button is tapped, the voice message will be transcribed into texts synchronically. So it relieves the effort for looking at the keyboard and typing in characters.
Customizable Contrast and Comfortable Light
In addition to text and image contrast of books, users can also adjust screen contrast. The latest V3.1 firmware upgrades the system and further separates the contrast adjustment into two aspects: darkness and whiteness. Users can modify the two elements individually to increase or decrease the system contrast.
The eye-friendly front lights also enhance the display contrast. Users can turn up or down brightness to make the screen lighting fit in the ambient environment. Also, they can adjust the lighting temperature on black&white BOOX eReaders to make the screen easier on the eyes.
Gravity Sensor and Left-handed Mode
Among all the BOOX E Ink tablets, Note Air is unique because of its asymmetry industrial design, quality build and its gravity sensor.
Note Air enables users to use the device in any direction without manual orientation adjustment. When users pick up a Note Air, they can start using it right away, no matter if they’re left or right-handed.
Left-handed users can also use other BOOX devices without challenges. The handedness selection will appear when a device is activated for the first time. After that, users can change the handedness preference any time via Settings> More Settings> Display the Function Tabs on the right (checked.)
The Notes toolbar can also be switched to the right-hand side: Tap the three-dot button at the bottom and tap “Swap left and right.”
Navigate and Explore BOOX with Ease
Gestures and the Navigation Ball on BOOX are two significant elements to help users navigate their devices easily. And both of them offer customization.
Users can assign an action to one of the gestures. So they can swipe from the bottom to switch tasks, go back to the last page and even take a screenshot. Also, sliding from the two sides (new feature of V3.1 Firmware) can conveniently adjust color temperature (if applied on the device), volume, screen brightness and more.
Besides gestures, users can also use the Navigation Ball to help them go back and forth, even on a device without a physical button. The Navigation Ball on BOOX offers nine buttons for customization.
Users can choose a function for a specific button and pin the most significant one on the screen. So one tap on the button can help them take a full-screen refresh or go back to the custom home page.
Moreover, they can tap the scrolling buttons in the Navigation Ball to go through the web page or book without scrolling the screen too often. The Navigation Ball can also be collapsed and docked aside.
All BOOX E Ink tablets offer the above accessibility features. You can order Max Lumi, Note Air, Note3, Nova3, and Nova3 Color at the BOOX Shop to get a full set of free accessories.
